Grieving over her sister’s death, Charlotte Morgan leaves the Carolina coast for the shores of Lake Erie, Ohio, to help care for her niece and nephew. While Conrad criticizes Charlotte for her interest in politics, lectures, and lack of domestic skills, she faults him for his insensitivity, rigid schedules, and harsh discipline. The two just can’t seem to get along. But could all their bickering be a sign of something more—an attraction between the two? Afraid of loving a man duty-bound to war, she ignores the growing affection between them.
Battle breaks out on Lake Erie. As U.S. Naval officers, Conrad and his brother attend their posts. Charlotte turns to fervent prayer and wills her faith to grow strong as she learns to wait upon the Lord. When neither returns, Charlotte fears the worst.

This was a wonderful historical romance in the time period where we were fighting England for our freedom here in America. This is a first for me in this time period. It was rich in information about how life was at that time period and how they traveled. The colorful characters added a lot to the situations also. Enjoyed this work involving our history a lot.
Jennifer Hudson Taylor writes some of the best historical fiction (based on real events) and brings them to a believable first-person encounter. ... `For Love or Liberty' incorporates a pair of Navy sailors destined for the epic battle that Commander Perry lead and won on Lake Erie. Although they and their ship are fictional, other ships and men are real. ... Taylor brings every cannon blow to life.
This book grabbed me right from the beginning, and I read it in a weekend. The characters are colorful and deep, the plot moves along at just the right pace, and vivid description brings it to life. The author, one of my favorites, is very gifted in the art of making the reader connect with and relate to the characters, and this book was no different. With a strong element of faith and theme of forgiveness, this book truly is Christian fiction.
The story will delve into the issues of grief, of love lost, of loyalty and duty as well as integrity. Those issues are portrayed well through the character development of Jennifer Taylor.
